Data corruption is the unintentional change of a file or the loss of info that often occurs during reading or writing. The reason may be hardware or software malfunction, and as a result, a file can become partially or entirely corrupted, so it'll no longer work as it should since its bits will be scrambled or missing. An image file, for instance, will no longer show a true image, but a random combination of colors, an archive will be impossible to unpack since its content will be unreadable, etcetera. In the event that this kind of an issue appears and it isn't recognized by the system or by an administrator, the data will become corrupted silently and in case this happens on a disk drive which is part of a RAID array where the data is synced between various drives, the corrupted file shall be copied on all the other drives and the damage will be long term. A number of widely used file systems either do not have real-time checks or don't have high quality ones which can detect an issue before the damage is done, so silent data corruption is a common matter on web hosting servers where huge volumes of information are kept.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Shared Hosting
We guarantee the integrity of the information uploaded in every shared hosting account which is made on our cloud platform due to the fact that we work with the advanced ZFS file system. The aforementioned is the only one that was designed to prevent silent data corruption thanks to a unique checksum for every single file. We shall store your data on a large number of SSD drives which work in a RAID, so exactly the same files will be available on several places simultaneously. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all the files on all the drives in real time and if the checksum of any file differs from what it has to be, the file system replaces that file with a healthy copy from a different drive from the RAID. There's no other file system which uses checksums, so it's easy for data to get silently damaged and the bad file to be replicated on all drives with time, but since this can never happen on a server using ZFS, you won't have to concern yourself with the integrity of your data.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers
In case you get one of our semi-dedicated server solutions, you will not need to worry about silent file corruption as we use ZFS - a high level file system that keeps track of all files in real time. Every time you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. That file will be synchronized between multiple SSD drives for redundancy, so if one drive fails, the other ones will take over. ZFS compares the checksum of all of the copies on the different drives and in case it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This happens immediately, so there will be no threat for any part of your content at any moment. In comparison, alternative file systems carry out checks after a system failure, but since they don't use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they cannot detect silently corrupted files, so a bad copy could be replicated on the other drives as well and you can lose precious info. Because this is not the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each and every file you upload no matter what.
